Abstract

The present manuscript deals with seed and seedling morphology of a very common ornamental and valuable medicinal plant Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don from Varanasi District (U.P.). Seedling morphology observed for 53 days. Root/Shoot length value (R/S Value) and Day and Date of appearance of different leaf stages have been provided in tabulated form.

Abstract

Seedling morphology of Adrographis paniculata (Burm. F.) Wall. Ex Nees has been studied to highlight their morphotaxonomic attributes. Seedling germination was Macaranga type. Paracotyledons were opposite, isocotylar, th foliaceous, exstipulate, petiolate and persistent up to 4^th leaf stage. Paracotyledon blade was orbicular, base rounded, apex shallowly emarginate, margins entire, both surfaces green and hairy, venation campylodromous. First leaves were opposite, simple, exstipulate and petiolate. Leaf petiole was green and pubescent but glabrous on abaxial surface, quadrangular and winged. Leaf shape was ovate, base rounded and attenuate, apex obtuse, entire margins and venation craspedodromous. Second and subsequent leaves same as that of first leaves except size. Axillary buds appear at 3^rd or 4^th leaf stage.
